Genus Atrichopogon
Distinguishing characteristics - The body of Atrichopogon looks different than other Ceratopogonidae larvae found in North Dakota. The body segments have obvious extensions or setae on the dorsal surface (Fig. B). Also note that the extensions on the side of the body are at least as long as the body segments (Fig. C).

Tolerance Value - Undetermined

Feeding Group - Sprawlers-clingers

Notes - Atrichopogon are found in many places, but we rarely collect them in North Dakota rivers. The larvae can be found in both flowing and still waters where they cling to debris or vegetation.
