Genus Perlesta
Distinguishing characteristics - You can identify Perlesta using characteristics from the tail to the head. The cerci do not have a fringe of long hairs (Fig. B). On the abdominal segments there should be more than 5 intercalary spinules. Each intercalary setae should have dark spots near the base (Fig. C). The pronotum is fringed with short setae (Fig. D). Behind the eyes, you'll find an irregular row of spinules (Fig. E).

Feeding Group - Predator

Notes - Perlesta live in flowing waters with gravel or silty bottoms. The young larvae feed on detritus while the older larvae are predators, eating larvae and larvae. Perlesta can be found in central and eastern North America.
